Slow on the uptake here. I just noticed that you throw in Sirk not once but twice in your sidebar, not just Magnificent Obsession but even Lured. btw, Claudette in your pic reminds me: I just caught up with John M. Stahl's original Imitation Of Life. Not in Sirk's league of course, but a pretty darned impressive (and prescient) movie just the same; I was surprised. Now I need to hunt down Stahl's original Magnificent Obsession.
When you do, PLEASE let me know. Haven't seen the Stahl "Obsession." Speaking of my mother -- she loves both "Imitations" but says she likes the Stahl better because (and I can't argue with her here) Colbert is a better actress than Turner. Thanks for noticing the refs, it does a film geek's heart good.

"If you live in France, for instance, and you have written one good book, or painted one good picture, or directed one outstanding film fifty years ago and nothing else since, you are still recognized and honored accordingly. People take their hats off to you and call you 'maître.' They do not forget. In Hollywood—in Hollywood, you're as good as your last picture."

You chose that photo from one of my SigOther Pam's 2 favorite films. Thank you!
