The Siren Is a Finalist for the 2007 Weblog Awards

The Siren is still around, O Patient Readers, and finishing up her Rebecca/Suspicion piece. Meanwhile The Shamus has brought her glad tidings.

The 2007 Weblog Awards

The Siren is a finalist for the 2007 Weblog Awards, as Best Culture Blog. She thinks most thanks are due to her stalwart commenters, who keep the place high-toned--as Nora said to Nick, "I love you because you know such lovely people."

If you get a chance, you can follow the link and vote for the Siren here, once every 24 hours until November 8. The Siren, of course, will maintain her serene dignity and unsmudged mascara no matter the outcome ...

... even if Libertas wins.

Many thanks to Jon Swift, that sterling example of reasonable conservatism, who took time off from O'Reilly-watching to reach across the aisle and nominate the Siren. Oddly enough, he has been nominated as "Funniest Blog." While the Siren thinks of Mr. Swift as a veritable tower of seriousness, indeed the Margaret Dumont of the blogosphere, he makes a persuasive argument that voting him the award will "send an important message that there are some prizes that [Al] Gore does not have a lock on, besides the Presidency, of course." Please vote for Jon as well.

See you, and the lovely Joan Fontaine, very soon.

Congrats on the nomination. I promise not to crush you so magnificently. Though I am open to teaming up and sabotaging Pop Candy. Let me know...

Vote for Self-Styled Siren? Early and often, as we say in my home state of West Virginia.

Of course, we usually get a pint of liquor for each vote--but that's not necessary, as I'm trying to moderate my alcohol intake.

I promise to vote daily. Besides, I checked out Libertas: what a tool.

Wow, congratulations! Of course, I'll vote for you. Good luck!

Dearest Siren, I gave you and Kathleen Maher (who's deservedly up for best literature blog) a big blurb over at my joint. I hope it brings you in some votes.

So start preparing that acceptance speech, and it's not too early to think about designers for your gown.

Congrats Siren! Well-deserved

Great news....but right now Libertas is winning.

Remember, sane cinebloggers...any blog that harbors Libertas is as much an enemy of the Siren as Libertas. Libertas poses an existential threat to all sane cinephile blogs. Only its total destruction (in the Weblog awards) can guarantee our survival.

Any criticism of my comment only emboldens Libertas.

The Jay - I hadn't seen your blog before but I enjoyed finding it! If it comes down to PopSugar versus Libertas I am afraid I am going for the Sugar folks, however. They only have what, 5 million visitors a month? Poor kids. They need us.

Flickhead, it made me *almost* as happy as being named your favorite film blogger.

Ivan, Dan, Goran & Bela, thanks very much, it is appreciated. See, there is no way to measure *quality* of votes.

Bob, are you questioning our blogtriotism?

Duddley, welcome. I can barely update my sidebar so the Webbies are safe from tampering, even if my patient readers and I were not the model of truth, justice and American fair play that we all so plainly are.

did I say "PopSugar"? I meant Pop Candy. Getting my cultural sweets mixed up.

I'll vote for you each day Siren, I love your blog. I also checked out Libertas, which I had not heard of before, and pretty much stalled out when I read the words "conservative thought." No thanks, I'll pass.

I voted for ya, even though I'm a PopCandy devotee. Whitney doesn't need my vote, so I'm going with you. Best of luck! :)

Dan, LOL! I am not sure I have see you comment before; Google tells me you are possibly an actor, an athlete, a graphic designer or a crew member in LA. :D Welcome. Random Shelf and Stuff That Dreams Are Made of are two right-leaning film blogs on my roll that I like a great deal. RightWing Film Geek is also a good read.

Catherine, thanks so much! I think PopCandy won last year. I hadn't read it much but it's a good blog from what I can see.

Congratulations Siren!
I'm voting for you, early and often, which we say in Chicago too.

Siren, of course I'm not questioning your level of commitment to the cause. In fact, whatever you write or do is, by the very fact that's it you doing it, blogtriotic.

Or, to put it in the language of the Moonbat blogs, IAITSWI ("It's alright if the Siren writes it"),

The one day I don't check to see if there's a new column posted . . . Congratulations!

Save the Siren, save the world!

Kathleen, thank you so much! I am voting regularly in your category too. :)

Bob: totally works for me.

Peter: I am glad I am not the only one who still manually checks for updates instead of these newfangled notification systems. **shakes walker**

Lance: now you have me singing save the WonderPets. If you don't know what that is you are a happy man indeed ...

I tell you I'm trying to do for you what Florida did for Bush, but it's just not working. . .

Congrats on the nomination -- well deserved!

Big congratulations, Campaspe! Wonderful news. And I like your sleek new design.

Campaspe said...

Thanks, Filmbrain and Girish! I finally worked up enough nerve to switch to the new template and wish I had done it earlier. That pink was getting on my nerves something terrible.
